Confirmed: James Milner’s shirt number and wage at Liverpool; former Man City man to become Reds’ highest-paid player

James Milner is set to become Liverpool’s top earner after swapping Manchester City for Anfield this week.

As had been expected, Brendan Rodgers made the England international his first signing of the summer when he agreed to acquire the player when his contract at City comes to an end on June 30.

While the Reds will not have to pay an initial transfer fee for Milner, the player will command a hefty signing-on fee, while his wage—as revealed by the Daily Star—is mouth-watering.

The British tabloid have announced that the former Leeds United man will pocked £150,000-per-week.

City reportedly offered the player £165,000 per-week-to remain at the club, but the prospect of a secured spot in the Liverpool first team, and the potential of becoming the Reds’ captain, persuaded Milner to accept a switch to Anfield.

Furthermore, in another sign of Rodgers’s faith in the new man, Milner is also believed to have been handed the club’s famous Number 7 shirt.

Following the departure of Luis Suarez last summer, his iconic shirt—which was previously worn by Kenny Dalglish, John Aldridge, Peter Beardsley, Steve McManaman and Kevin Keegan —was unassigned.

The No. 8 and the No. 11 shirts are also vacant.

The Reds will hope that Milner materialises into a No. 7 of the calibre of Dalglish or Suarez, rather than other previous incumbents, Robbie Keane or Harry Kewell.
