INVERNESS boss John Hughes has been warned by Peter Houston that it’s the Falkirk manager’s turn to grab glory.

Houston and Hughes will go head-to-head in Saturday’s Scottish Cup Final at Hampden.

And as the Bairns set their sights on winning the trophy for the first time since 1957 against a side that has never previously made the final, Houston told Scottish Football Writers’ Association and PFA Scotland manager of the year Hughes to stop being greedy.

He said: “During one of his recent awards speeches, John said I’ve already won the cup with Dundee United, so it’s someone else’s turn.

"Well, he has two manager of the year awards, so me winning the cup would even up trophies at 2-2.” Houston is toying with bringing back Rory Loy for the final even though the striker has been out since March with a stress fracture.

Loy played 20 minutes of a bounce game in Swansea last week.

But Houston is tempted to go with the 27-year-old, who will feature for the final time as a Bairn before a move to Dundee.

Houston spoke glowingly about Loy and said: “He has looked good in training, he’s physically fit.

“His sharpness levels could be better but he’s a big player for us.

“If he hadn’t got injured against Queen of the South, and he and John Baird had continued the way they had, we might have made the play-offs. Maybe not.

“But they were starting to form a really good partnership.

“He did two weeks at St George’s Park prior to last week down in Swansea with us.

“He has done all the pool stuff and the one-on-one stuff on the fancy treadmills they have there.

“They battered him fitness-wise.

“And the last two weeks have been about trying to work on his sharpness.

“He has not played a competitive game since March, which is always a problem.

“So the decision is, do I start him or not? Rory is keen to start the game and it would give me a lift if his name was on the team-sheet.

“But I will only do it if I am 100 per cent certain in my own mind that he is not going to get a kick and come off the pitch after five minutes.

“It might be really important at the start of the game that he is with us, not only for the boost that would give his fellow players but for the fans as well.

“That’s what’s going through my head.”
