Dietmar Hamann has managed to get a selfie with Liverpool’s ‘greatest-ever player’.

Naturally, most Reds supporters might jump to the conclusion that Hamann is talking about his former team-mate Steven Gerrard, who will make his final Liverpool appearance on Sunday.

However, the former Germany international was referencing the club’s record appearance maker Ian Callaghan, who racked up a staggering 868 games for the Merseyside outfit.

And Hamann, who made a rather tame 283 appearances in comparison to Callaghan’s tally, uploaded a snap of the pair on his Twitter page on Sunday morning.

Hamann won the Champions League, two FA Cups and two League Cups during a seven-year stay at Anfield.

Liverpool legend Callaghan, meanwhile, won five top-flight crowns as well as the Second Division title.

The midfielder also helped the Reds win their first two European Cups in 1977 and 1978 and the FA Cup twice during a 18-year stay at Liverpool.
