MANCHESTER CITY will offer Liverpool Stevan Jovetic plus cash in a £45 million package for Raheem Sterling.

But City will still face a fight to prise the England forward away from Anfield to the Etihad as Arsenal have emerged as strong rivals.

The Daily Star Sunday has been told that Sterling would love to return to London - and Arsenal in particular.

He was brought up in London after moving there from Jamaica when he was seven.

City, though, are hoping £15 million-valued Jovetic plus another £30 million will see Liverpool give up their fight to keep Sterling, 20.

It's understood that Montenegrin Jovetic, 25, would be happy to work with Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers, even though he is wanted in Italy by Champions League finalists Juventus and also Inter Milan.

Liverpool's stance on Sterling is that her will not be sold and will have to honour the remaining two years on his contract.

But Sterling's agent, Aidy Ward, has made it clear the Liverpool starlet will not sign a new deal at Anfield.

Chelsea and Manchester United are also monitoring the Sterling situation and he has also been linked with Euro giants Real Madrid and Bayern Munich.

LIVERPOOL should cash in on wantaway Raheem Sterling and use the transfer cash to start a new era at Anfield.

That's the verdict from former Reds favourite Jan Molby, who believes the Reds can cope with the departure of the England attacker, 20.

Sterling is set for showdown talks with Rodgers and the Liverpool board and is said to be on the verge of a big-money switch to Manchester City.

And former Denmark playmaker Molby, 51, said: "If Raheem feels Liverpool is no longer the best place to be then I guess you have to bite the bullet and move him on. It is not like the sale of Suarez.

"You knew the impact that sale would have on the team — I am not convinced if you sell Sterling it will have the same negative impact.

"In my mind it might be the right time to sell because the club is in transition and maybe we could just do with that money.

"I think we need to move away from buying potential and buy off the top-shelf, ready-made players, who can go in and improve the team.

"A lot of fans of Liverpool, steeped in the history, are not used to players wanting to leave so it has come as a bit of a shock."
