James Wilson’s girlfriend responds to cruel tweet

The girlfriend of Manchester United striker James Wilson, Frankie Barwell, has responded in style to a cruel and unnecessary tweet from an Australian sports betting website.

Oddschecker Au deleted the offending tweet mocking her appearance after a barrage of furious responses from Twitter users - not just Manchester United fans, either - but Frankie had her say with a brilliant Instagram post.

She posted a photo of herself, alongside the caption: "Remember, people only rain on your parade because they're jealous of your sun and tired of their shade."

Oddschecker Au later apologised for the tweet, but by then the damage had already been done.

Wilson also added his support, according to the Manchester Evening News, by posting a heart emoji on his partner's Instagram post.

WILSON HAS BIG FUTURE IN THE GAME

Wilson, 19, has enjoyed an encouraging breakthrough season under Louis van Gaal, having scored two goals in 16 first-team appearances.

The England Under-20 international has a bright future ahead of him, but could be loaned out by the Red Devils for the duration of the 2015-16 campaign.

Plenty of clubs - including those in the Premier League - will be keen to secure Wilson's services for next season. The young striker, who joined United in 2010, possesses lightning speed and a cool eye for goal.

Wilson famously scored twice on his Manchester United debut against Hull City in May 2014 - under the then-caretaker manager Ryan Giggs - and continues to progress at a steady pace.

WILSON SHOULD BE LOANED OUT NEXT SEASON

He will end this season perhaps slightly disappointed with the number of goals he has managed to score, but will have discovered that scoring in the Premier League is significantly harder than netting goals for the Under-21s.

With Radamel Falcao set to leave Old Trafford at the end of the season, Wilson could be promoted to the role of Manchester United's third-choice striker behind Wayne Rooney and Robin van Persie.

However, it seems more likely that Wilson will spend time away from Old Trafford - allowing him to cut his teeth elsewhere for a season - while Manchester United spend money on a permanent replacement for Falcao and Javier Hernandez, who is also expected to leave United this summer.
