Arsenal boss Wenger denies Aaron Ramsey to Barcelona speculation

Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger gives his thoughts on the ongoing contract sagas of Raheem Sterling and Theo Walcott.

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is determined to keep hold of his key men this summer and was quick to rebuff suggestions Barcelona were set to move for Wales midfielder Aaron Ramsey.

Arsenal maintains a close relationship with the Catalan giants and has benefited greatly from it. But Wenger was clear Friday he has heard nothing about Ramsey.

"It is not realistic. Believe me, Barcelona know us well. They have gone through transfers with us. If they want someone they call me," the Arsenal manager said.

Wenger feels his toughest decisions over the summer will be which players to let go.

The Gunners are expected to strengthen in a bid to be genuine Premier League title contenders in 2015-16, having fallen short this term.

Wenger knows there will have to be some movement out of the Emirates Stadium if he is to bring in the likes of reported targets Petr Cech, Morgan Schneiderlin and Marco Reus, with the 25-man squad limit and home-grown quota both to be adhered to.

Players such as Lukas Podolski, Yaya Sanogo and Joel Campbell are all set to return for preseason training from loan spells, and Wenger admits he has a balancing act to perform.

"The squad is the right number but the competition is right, not too big because too big kills competition, too short kills competition as well, so we have to find the right number that is a fair competition," the Frenchman said.

It's been suggested Aaron Ramsey is in the sights of La Liga champions Barcelona.

Asked if players had to go out before others could come in, Wenger added: "Chronologically you do not always decide that. Sometimes you have to decide 'okay, we have an opportunity, we do it and after we will see how we deal with the rest'."

Another player going nowhere is Tomas Rosicky, the 34-year-old Czech midfielder having agreed a contract extension.

Wenger said: "Tomas Rosicky is part of our cohesion. In the second part of the season it is true that there was a lot of competition there [in midfield], but he likes the way we play, the way we behave and he wants to be part of that.

"I am happy that he is here. He is in the position of [Mesut] Ozil, [Jack] Wilshere, Ramsey, [Alexis] Sanchez, where there is big competition and he has suffered for that, but when he plays he is always top quality."

Arsenal will be out to sign off from their Premier League season with a win against West Brom on Sunday to take some momentum into the FA Cup final.

The Gunners laboured through a goalless draw at home to Sunderland on Wednesday night, which ensured the Black Cats' survival and all-but secured third place for the hosts.

"When you switch off it is always difficult to switch on again, it is not like when you switch on a light," said Wenger.

"For us what is important is to finish well and score again, but I am not especially concerned so lets just focus on the quality of the game we play."
