GARETH BALE's switch to Manchester United has taken a step forward following talks with his agent and Real Madrid officials.

Bale's representative Jonathan Barnett and Real Madrid president Florentino Pérez met on Wednesday to discuss the player's future.

And Spanish newspaper AS Diario claim Barnett took a firm stance, telling Real Madrid to reveal their intentions or they'll begin proceedings with other clubs.

Bale is understood to want clarity on his future as soon as possible and has instructed Barnett to obtain a clear message from Real.

However, the club have tried to play down the meeting, suggesting it was merely an analysis of Bale's season.

But Barnett rarely travels to Madrid and only makes the journey on matters of high importance, casting their claims into doubt.

Perez is known to be a supporter of Bale, yet unrest from the fans and a rumoured poor relationship with Cristiano Ronaldo has made his future uncertain.

And should he be shown the exit door, then Bale's agent will waste no time putting together a comprehensive exit strategy from the Bernabeau.

Bale has played 48 times for Madrid this season, scoring 17 times and making 12 assists.
