Premier League side West Ham are to step up their bid to make Rafael Benitez their new manager after deciding he is their first choice to replace Sam Allardyce.
Allardyce's contract at the Boleyn Ground is up at the end of the season, and it is believed the 60 year-old will take charge of his final home game as Hammers boss against Everton on Saturday.
Former Liverpool manager Benitez is seen by the West Ham board as the man to lead the club into the Olympic Stadium in 2017.
The Irons are aware that Benitez - who is set to leave his current role as Napoli manager at the end of the season - is likely to consider other options, and want to move quickly to try to convince the Spaniard he should commit to their ambitious plans.
Benitez managed Liverpool between 2004 and 2010, winning the UEFA Champions League and the FA Cup.
