Chelsea set £50m ceiling for Man United target Paul Pogba

CHELSEA have set a ceiling of £50m for Juventus star Paul Pogba.

The Blues are ready to match the record fee they paid Liverpool for striker Fernando Torres in January 2011.

Billionaire owner Roman Abramovich has told his negotiators he is no longer ready to pay "silly money" for stars.

He is also insisting the club adhere to UEFA's Financial Fair Play, balancing the books by selling players when Jose Mourinho adds to his squad.

There does not look to be any big-name stars, who would command big fees, on the way out of Stamford Bridge.

Keeper Petr Cech, valued at £10m, looks the only one likely to bring in a sizeable chunk of money.

But FFP works on a three-year cycle, allowing the west Londoners two more seasons to bring in the funds for a Pogba deal.

It is understood Abramovich will not get involved in a bidding war with Manchester City for French midfielder Pogba, 22. The deposed champions are said to be ready to go up to £70m for Pogba and offer him £250,000 after tax.

Chelsea yesterday agreed a £5m deal with Brazilian club Atletico Paranaense for Nathan.

The 19-year-old attacking midfielder will complete his move on July 1.
