Mauricio Pochettino praised his Tottenham Hotspur side for their performance despite losing 1-0 at home to Manchester City on Sunday.

Sergio Aguero scored the only goal of the game in the 29th minute to leave Spurs seven points off fourth spot with three games remaining, but the hosts had plenty of chances throughout.

Pochettino told Sky Sports: "I am proud of the players, our performance was good, we deserved more, much, much more than the result.

"We create a lot of chances but didn't score. Congratulations to our players for their efforts.

"We created more chances than Manchester City, I am very disappointed for the result, but happy for the performance."

City broke from a Spurs corner to score through Aguero, and although Pochettino admitted the goal was a mistake on their part, he insisted the side will continue to play with the same philosophy.

"It was our chance, a good chance for us. In the counter attack we made the mistake, but we always try to play in our philosophy.

"We created a lot of chances and managed the tempo of the game, but you need to score."

Pochettino, in his first season at White Hart Lane, will finish the campaign with less points than the 2013/14 season under Andre-Villas-Boas and Tim Sherwood, and the Argentine insists he needs to assess his side in the summer.

"I think that we need to analyse the season, but if you play like we play today than we will win more than lose."
