US Sassuolo Calcio vs Palermo preview - Iachini warns of Sassuolo threat

Palermo boss Giuseppe Iachini is under no illusions that out-of-form Sassuolo have the potential to hurt his side's bid for a top-eight finish in Serie A.

A string of wins over the last five games could propel the Sicilians into the top half and even above the likes of Torino and AC Milan, with the 10th-placed Rossoneri only one point better off.

Sassuolo are stumbling towards safety and a home victory over Palermo on Saturday would effectively secure it, but they have lost three of their last four games - the last of which was a 3-0 humbling at the hands of Roma.

Iachini remembers the reverse fixture which saw his side squeeze past Sassuolo 2-1 with a last-minute winner and he is refusing to underestimate the small-town club from Emilia-Romagna.

He told palermocalcio.it: "It's a difficult place to go and they're a quality team so we know we'll have to produce a great display to get a result.

"I don't know exactly what's been going on behind the scenes there but they have plenty of quality players who have good experience.

"Therefore I would imagine they will be a dangerous team to face because they know what they have to do when they get out on the pitch.

"They may be experiencing a bit of a bad patch but they have the potential to do well and we just need to concentrate on getting as many points as possible."

Michel Morganella, Edgar Barreto, Emerson and Simon Makienok are sidelined through injury for the Rosanero while 16th-placed Sassuolo are without the suspended Paolo Cannavaro.

Francesco Magnanelli, Sime Vrsaljko, Luca Antei and Anastasios Donis are just a few of the players on the treatment table at the Mapei Stadium and head coach Eusebio di Francesco is nervous about getting over the line.

"We are not yet safe, we have to bounce back immediately in our next game against Palermo," he told reporters following the Roma defeat.

"The guys still tried very hard, so we just need to think positively so we can do well in these last five games."
