Stade Reims 2 - 4 Lyonnais: Gones with the win

Lyon returned to the top of Ligue 1 on Sunday evening with a 4-2 win over Reims.

Paris St Germain had thrashed Lille 6-1 on Saturday to go three points clear but Lyon answered that as Corentin Tolisso and Alexandre Lacazette put them 2-0 up only six minutes in.

Maxime Gonalons' own goal soon pegged them back but it was 3-1 20 minutes in when Clinton N'Jie scored. That is how it stayed until the dying stages when Mickael Tacalfred's own goal padded Lyon's lead before Gaetan Charbonnier pulled one back.

Lyon made a blistering start to the game and found themselves two goals to the good inside the opening six minutes.

There were less than two minutes on the clock when Tolisso rose highest from Clement Grenier's corner to power a header beyond a grounded Kossi Agassa.

Then, with the hosts shell-shocked, Les Gones struck again when N'Jie found space before delivering and Lacazette arrived at the back post to volley home emphatically.

Reims hit back, though, and reduced the deficit to one goal during an incredible opening quarter hour when Alexi Peuget powered a 20-yard effort beyond Anthony Lopes with a huge slice of fortune in the form of Lyon midfielder Gonalons' boot.

The hosts' joy was short-lived and Lyon only needed a matter of minutes to restore their two-goal advantage when Henri Bedimo escaped down the left and his teasing cross was expertly steered into the top corner by N'Jie with a wonderful first-time finish.

There were plenty of chances for both sides before the interval but Diego's lob cleared both Lopes and the Lyon goal while, at the other end, Nabil Fekir saw his effort saved by Agassa after driving past three Reims defenders.

Reims came out for the second half with more purpose and went agonisingly close just before the hour mark when Anthony Devaux rose highest from a corner to head at goal but, with Lopes beat, the ball crashed to safety off the crossbar.

Devaux continued to threaten the Lyon goal and only a sprawling save from Lopes prevented his header from sneaking in the bottom corner while Agassa matched his counterpart's efforts at the other end with a magnificent double save to deny both N'Jie and Jordan Ferri.

There was still time for two late goals when, firstly, Lyon struck a fourth in fortuitous circumstances when Reims defender Tacalfred saw his sliced clearance loop over his own keeper before Reims added a late consolation thanks to Charbonnier's near post header.
