Rodgers: I won’t be at Liverpool forever

Liverpool boss Brendan Rodgers has said that he won’t be at the club forever and his position will be under jeopardy if the Reds don’t maintain a steady progression every season, as per the Liverpool Echo.

The Reds have had a disappointing season as they were knocked out of the semi-finals of both the Capital One Cup and the FA Cup.

Furthermore, Liverpool are currently fifth and look like missing out on the fourth and final Champions League place as well.

All this is in contrast to last season when they almost won the league title for the first time since 1990 and it was something that wasn’t lost on Rodgers.

''Listen, that (the sack) may come at some stage. I’m not sat here in a beautiful red comfy chair thinking I’m going to be here forever. That’s not the case, ” Rodgers told the Liverpool Echo.

''The owners know the work that has gone in. I’ve worked tirelessly since I’ve been in here and they’ve seen the progress. Of course when you disappoint in a big game like that it can sway decisions but they are very understanding of where we’re at.

''This was always going to be a longer term plan. I don’t think anyone can say that we haven’t made progress. We took over a team who finished eighth and in the last two and three quarter seasons we have implemented a philosophy to win games and excite.

''We went on an unexpected run that nearly brought us the title last season and qualified for the Champions League. This season we’ve reached two cup semi-finals without our No 1 striker.

''What we have to do is make that next step. We want to be winners and I am even more motivated than the first day I walked in here.”

Rodgers’ inability to effectively replace Luis Suarez has seen the Reds struggle to score goals and fail to replicate their blistering performances of last season – with summer signing Mario Balotelli being a notable disappointment, only scoring one goal.

Injuries to Daniel Sturridge hasn’t helped either and Anfield side have scored only 49 goals from 32 games – by the same stage last season they had 88.
