Memphis Depay denies Manchester United talks:

Memphis Depay has denied talking with Manchester United about a prospective move this summer.

Reports linking the 21-year-old with a move to Old Trafford have existed ever since Louis van Gaal took over as manager but they have intensified over the last week since PSV lifted the Eredivisie title.

The latest reports suggest Depay’s representatives met with Man United officials in Manchester to discuss the potential move but speaking to Dutch television channel Fox Sports after PSV’s game last night, Depay insisted those reports were incorrect.

''Its not true,” he said.

''I want to say nothing more about it. We’ll see how it goes, but I know myself there is still nothing so I can tell you nothing.”

It comes as absolutely no surprise to hear Depay categorically deny any talks with Man United. Even if he had met up and had a long chat with van Gaal, he would have been told to deny all reports for the time being by his agency. How Depay delivered his comments may be indicative of that:

When further questioned on whether he felt a €25-30m price tag was fair, Depay added: “If that were true, then that would be fantastic, a dream. I think everyone wants that.”

United paying €25-30m for one of Europe’s finest talent is a drop in the water in comparison to some of the transfer fees which players dictate and his comments that everybody wants him to secure a big money move represents all parties involved.

PSV will want to cash in on their best asset when they can get a good price for him and Depay himself will be very keen to play football at the highest level, so a big money move would certainly suit all parties.
