Monchengladbach vs Wolfsburg preview - Monchengladbach set for crunch game

Borussia Monchengladbach will be bidding to join Wolfsburg in the Champions League next season by beating the Wolves this Sunday.

A win would guarantee the Foals fourth place in the standings and keep them in with a chance of finishing third, but regardless of where they finish after 34 matches, their coach Lucien Favre says they must be proud of what they have achieved.

"Let's not forget where we were four years ago," said the Swiss, who took charge when Gladbach were at the bottom of the table and led them to survival via a play-off.

"That's why, no matter where we finish, we've had a very good season.

"There are still 15 points to play for and everything's possible, but we've got to think from game to game."

Favre has therefore urged caution ahead of a game he expects to be complicated.

"Wolfsburg are second and that says everything about the enormous quality they've got," he said.

"They rested some key players in the Europa League on Thursday because probably they had this game in the back of their minds, so I don't think that's going to be an advantage for us."

Despite resting players, Wolfsburg coach Dieter Hecking still has a few doubts with Vieirinha, Andre Schurrle and Kevin De Bruyne all carrying knocks.

"It's going to be touch and go," said Hecking about that trio's chances of running out at the Borussia Park Stadion, where he wants his side to "take a big step towards a place in the Champions League group stage.

"That is something we want to take," he added.

Victory would put 10 points between the two sides with four games of the season remaining, practically ensuring the Wolves will not drop lower than third and ensuring them a longer summer break without the need for a play-off in August.
