Martinez on revenge mission

Everton manager Roberto Martinez says his side have a point to prove against Manchester United on Sunday after they narrowly lost out in their first meeting earlier in the season.

Everton went down 2-1 at Old Trafford last October in a match which saw England defender Leighton Baines miss the first penalty of his professional career on the stroke of half time.

And two fine saves by United goalkeeper David De Gea to deny Leon Osman and Bryan Oviedo compounded Martinez's misery with the Spaniard insisting at the time they were 'worth at least a share of the points'.

"I felt we were a little hard done by at Old Trafford, the way we finished that game we deserved better and David De Gea made two world-class saves," said Martinez, whose side completed the double over United last season.

"We feel we have something to get back from that earlier game."

United's five-match winning run was ended at Chelsea last weekend, although their manager Louis van Gaal still rated the performance as one of their best, while Everton have taken 13 points from a possible 15.

"I think we are facing a Manchester United in the best moment of their season," added Martinez. "The track record of Louis van Gaal speaks for itself and his team is showing clearly the way he wants to play.

"He is someone who always gets his teams to dominate games, they are organised and they use possession football to good effect.

"I think now there are really strong partnerships all over the park. You see players fitting in really well with their roles and the way they are playing shows in the last few games.

"Their last few away games have been the most challenging this season but they performed at their best level.

"Even the defeat at Chelsea is a performance I am sure they were very pleased with but victories in the Manchester derby and against Liverpool show the level Manchester United are at."
