Hamann believes Schweinsteiger will leave Bayern

Former German international Dietmar Hamann believes that Bastian Schweinsteiger could leave Bayern Munich due to the arrival of Xabi Alonso, via Goal.

30-year-old Schweinsteiger has been a mainstay in the Bayern team over the years, but has struggled with injury this season and has lost his place in the side.

Ex-Liverpool man Xabi Alonso joined the German champions in the summer from Real Madrid, and has been preferred by Bayern boss Pep Guardiola.

Schweinsteiger missed Bayern's opening eleven games of the Bundesliga campaign through injury, limiting the midfielder to just 15 league appearances.

The midfielder had to be content with a place on the bench during the German sides 6-1 thrashing of Porto in the Champions League this week, with Alonso again preferred in midfield.

And Hamann believes that Schweinsteiger's days may be numbered at the club, given Guardiola's preference of Alonso.
Hamann said: "Schweinsteiger has apparently lost the battle for a place in midfield to Xabi Alonso. I do not think Schweinsteiger will still be playing for Bayern next year."

The former Liverpool man also revealed that he believes that the future of French forward Franck Ribery may also be in doubt.

"It will also be quite tricky for Ribery," Hamann said. "If you have to make a choice between Ribery and Muller once Robben returns, I would always pick Muller."

Schweinsteiger has scored two goals from midfield this season, and has created 24 chances for his teammates. Alonso has created 30 chances and has been accurate with 90% of his passes in the Bundesliga this term.

Should Hamann be correct and Schweinsteiger and Ribery are put on the market by Bayern it is likely that a number of Europe's top clubs will be queuing up outside the Allianz Arena.

Man Utd and Chelsea have been credited with interest in the midfielder, according to the guardian.
