Fabio Quagliarella struck from the penalty spot as Torino came from behind to earn a point at Sassuolo on Sunday and maintain their push for Europa League football next season.

Toro dominated the opening half but superb goalkeeping from Sassuolo's Andrea Consigli prevented them from opening their account.

The hosts took the lead on the stroke of half-time after Torino captain, Kamil Glik, brought down Antonio Floro Flores and Domenico Berardi converted the penalty.

Glik then made the most of a brush against Floro Flores to earn a spot-kick that Quagliarella took and converted in the 58th minute.

Toro are now unbeaten in their last four games and have climbed to eighth in Serie A, six points adrift of the last Europa League qualifying spot.

Sassuolo have remained in 12th place and are 13 points clear of the drop zone with seven games remaining.

Toro had the first chance in the 12th minute when Quagliarella's left-footed strike from 12 yards was saved by Consigli.

Six minutes later, Consigli was called on again to make a save to clear Marco Benassi's bullet strike from outside the area.

The visitors continued to press forward and Consigli remained heavily involved to deny goal-bound shots from Josef Martinez and Marco Benassi.

In the 35th minute, Alexander Farnerud set up Quagliarella in the box and he struck towards the centre of goal but Consigli was again equal to the task.

Sassuolo took the lead against the run of play after Berardi fell in the box and the referee pointed to the spot.

Berardi's drove the ball into the bottom right corner to hand the hosts a narrow first-half lead.

Toro wasted a good chance to equalise six minutes into the second half when a corner kick towards the far post found an unmarked Cesare Bovo and the defender struck over the bar from six yards.

The Granata's efforts paid off before the hour when they were awarded a penalty after Floro Flores fouled Glik inside the area.

Consigli could do nothing as Quagliarella struck a right-footed shot past him.

The visitors almost made it 2-1 three minutes later when Quagliarella fed substitute Maxi Lopez in the box but his right-footed attempt was kept out by Consigli.

The teams settled for a share of the spoils.
