Sassuolo vs Torino preview - Ventura wants momentum

Posted Saturday, April 18, 2015 by PA

Torino coach Giampiero Ventura has urged his team to maintain their recent momentum when they visit Sassuolo on Sunday.

The Granata have collected seven points of a possible nine in their last three league games and last weekend's 1-1 draw against Roma lifted Toro to seventh in Serie A.

Genoa's 2-0 win over Parma on Wednesday subsequently saw them leapfrog Torino, who slipped a place down the standings.

With six points separating Toro from a European qualifying spot and eight games remaining, Ventura is not ruling out qualifying for the Europa League next term.

"We are having a solid campaign and it could finish even better," Ventura said to the Italian press. "The draw against Roma was very important not only because it came against a strong opponent but because it allowed us to give continuity to our recent results.

"Our latest performance gives us the opportunity to face our next two games in the best possible way."

Victory on Sunday would be a big boost in confidence for Toro ahead of the derby against Juventus on April 26.

Toro have reason to be confident for they have won five and lost one of their last seven away games in Serie A.

Opponents Sassuolo lost 2-1 at Atalanta on Sunday to drop to 12th position in the standings.

The Emilia-Romagna club are 13 points clear of the drop zone but coach Eusebio di Francesco knows his players cannot rest on their laurels.

"Against Atalanta we made too many individual errors that cost us dearly," Di Francesco said. "We need to limit our mistakes.

"We have to continue to work without losing our focus because we are not safe yet."

With Sassuolo having failed to come out triumphant on the road since January 6, Di Francesco's men will be hoping to make the most of their homes games.

Sassuolo have won their last two games at the Citta del Tricolore stadium.

The hosts welcome back defenders Federico Peluso and Sime Vrsaljko, with the former returning from suspension and the latter having shaken off a muscular injury.

However, midfielder Simone Missiroli must serve a one-match ban.

Toro are without suspended midfielder Omar El Kaddouri but have Migjen Basha available after the Albanian midfielder completed a ban last weekend.
