He told the world at the weekend that Wing’s Cantonese eaterie is “Manchester’s best restaurant”, and United manager Louis Van Gaal has had more of his kind words put on public display inside the city centre venue.

For Van Gaal has become the latest celebrity to be honoured with his own signed plate displayed on the wall inside the celebhaunt venue on Lincoln Square featuring a personal message to owner Wing Shing Chu.

Although it was a typically cryptic comment from the Dutchman.

He wrote: “Relationship is a matter of process but your Chinese food was from the beginning fantastic.”

Also joining Van Gaal on the celebrity walls is one of his new signings this year, striker Angel Di Maria.

Angel, who rather fittingly is nicknamed Fideo, the Spanish for "noodle", has been spotted at the restaurant with his family since moving to Manchester last year.

He wrote on his plate (translated from the Spanish): “For Wings, with lots of affection and thanks to everybody from Angel Di Maria.”

The United duo are in good company on the wall of fame - which also includes signatures from fellow Reds Wayne and Coleen Rooney, Radamel Falcao and Van Gaal’s predecessor Sir Alex Ferguson, as well as Man City goalie Joe Hart.

The restaurant has become the focus of international press interest this week, after Van Gaal repeatedly mentioned it during his celebratory post-match interview following United’s 4-2 victory over Manchester City on Sunday.

In the interview he told the world’s press: “I can go to Mr Wing’s because when you win, you can go. When you lose, the fans say, What is Louis van Gaal doing?’ Losing and he goes to Manchester’s best restaurant?’ Now maybe I shall go.”

He was subsequently photographed looking very happy at the restaurant, as were his squad members who hit the town to celebrate the victory.

The restaurant was opened 11 years ago by entrepreneur Wing Shing Chu on Lincoln Square, just off Deansgate.

It fast became popular with the city’s footballers and celebrities, thanks to its traditional Cantonese cuisine and the very personal service of owner Wing Shing Chu, known to many as “Mr Wing”.

He famously brings out personalised chopsticks to many of his VIP and regular clients, who have included a galaxy of stars over the years, including TV presenters Ant and Dec, music legend Sir Tom Jones, crooner Michael Buble and movie star Kelly Brook.
