Luke Shaw admits he has suffered a frustrating first season at Manchester United as he prepares to face boyhood club Chelsea.

The England full-back moved to Old Trafford in a £27m deal from Southampton last summer, but poor form and injury problems have restricted him to just 17 appearances this season and the 19-year-old admits he has struggled to adapt to the huge expectations at United.

"It’s been a frustrating one because of the injuries I’ve picked up but I’m loving it," he told Match of the Day magazine.

"If I was to write a school report on my first season here I’d give myself a C-. You don’t realise just how big Man United is until you’re actually here – it’s frightening! It is the biggest club around."

Shaw hopes to be involved in Saturday's trip to league leaders Chelsea, who he grew up supporting, having missed the 4-2 win over Manchester City with an injury picked up against Arsenal in the FA Cup.

United will bid for their seventh straight win live on Sky Sports 1 on Saturday as they consolidate their position in the top four and Shaw is desperate to play at Stamford Bridge.

"I used to watch Chelsea every week. It was really good when I got to play at Stamford Bridge, I would say that’s my favourite away stadium to go to. Chelsea is one of the first games I look for when the new fixtures come out.

"I haven’t scored yet so I don’t know. If my first goal was to come against Chelsea I’m not sure what I’d do."
