Gabriel Paulista has revealed why he could not turn down a January move to Arsenal from Villarreal.

The Brazilian linked up with the Gunners at the start of the year in a surprise move from Spain, and has impressed on the pitch after helping to ease the pressure on first-choice defender Per Mertesacker and Laurent Koscielny.

Arsenal are on course to secure a top four finish following a fine run of form in the Premier League, and Gabriel admits that the lure of playing in England was enough to convince him to make the winter switch.

He told Arsenal.com: "Every player knows his quality, we have top-quality training facilities and an excellent team."

"If you look at our individual qualities we make a great team. That's why we are playing well especially now in the last weeks of the season."

"[The strength of the league is] one of the reasons why I wanted to play here. It's a tight competition with no weak teams. Clubs at the bottom of the table compete at the same level with the leaders."

"The Premier League is a tough competition. If you lose a game, the team below you in the table will get closer. We are aware of the difficulties, but we are on the right path."
