Stewards had their hands full dealing with pitch invaders in Tbilisi during the visit of Germany

The Georgians fear they will be forced to play their next home qualifier behind closed doors as punishment for the trouble which flared up in last weekend’s loss to Germany.

There were seven pitch invasions during Saturday’s 2-0 defeat in the Boris Paichadze Dinamo Arena in Tbilisi and now they are waiting to discover what action UEFA will take.

Gordon Strachan’s side visit Georgia on September 4 and that could coincide with a ban on home and away fans.

Georgian Football Federation president Zviad Sichinava said: “Delegates from UEFA are already transmitting documents.

"Unfortunately there will be monetary sanctions.

"Also, the next Georgia team home match could be held without spectators.”

That would be a major blow to the Tartan Army and players as they look to clinch their first appearance at a major finals since 1998.
