Pepe Reina urges De Gea to stay put

Pepe Reina has advised Manchester United keeper David de Gea to stay at his present club and not be tempted by a possible Real Madrid offer.

De Gea is "is one of the top goalkeepers in Europe and this year he has been superb", enthused Reina in an interview with British radio programme, TalkSport.

"Maybe Real Madrid are looking for a goalkeeper and De Gea is one of the names suggested, but I think he should be happy enough to play for Man United", the ex-Spain international commented.

The young 24-year-old United shotstopper arrived at the Premier League in 2012 from Atletico de Madrid for £17.8 million (€22.7 million) following a request by who was at that time manager of the club, Alex Ferguson.

After a rocky start under the Scotsman's orders, De Gea settled in at his new club, becoming one of the team's most reliable players over the years and one of the fans' favourites.

With the Red Devils, who are three-time European champions, the goalkeeper has won the league and two Community Shields. He has also been named 'player of the year' by his club for the 2013-14 season and in the season 2012-13 was also chosen to be one of the men between the sticks for the Premier League's 'Team of the Year'.

The Spanish and English media have echoed rumours of a possible move by the Spaniard to Real, as a substitute for Iker Casillas, next season.
