Henderson puts contract rumours to bed: 'I want to stay at Liverpool for many years'

Jordan Henderson has dismissed ongoing speculation over his Liverpool contract, insisting his intends to stay at the club for many years to come.

The 24-year-old has been one of the Reds' most consistent players this season and has become the favourite to succeed Steven Gerrard as the club's permanent captain.

But his future at Anfield has come under the spotlight in recent weeks, with the England midfielder yet to agree an extension to his current deal which is set to expire next summer.

A number of European clubs are reportedly circling the Reds star, but Henderson remains relaxed over the situation and has left his agent and club to negotiate so his focus can remain on the football.

"It's definitely not [a major issue]," Henderson said. "I love playing football for Liverpool and I want to be there for many years."

"In terms of my contract, I think everybody else will make a big deal of it but for me it's just letting my agent and the club deal with it and whenever it gets sorted, it gets sorted."

Henderson took time to adjust to life on Merseyside following a £16million move from Sunderland, but has since has developed into a key member of Liverpool’s talented young squad.

The Reds came agonisingly short of Premier League glory last season and remain in the mix for a top four finish this year, but Henderson believes their recent renaissance is just the start for the club.

He added: “All I want to do is my best for club and country."

"At Liverpool we've got fantastic players, real quality players and a lot of potential," the midfielder said.

"We're a young team and I think there is great potential and a big part of us is wanting to be winners and winning trophies. I really feel we can do that."

"It is the same with England. I really feel we are going in the right direction and hopefully in the next Euros we can do something special."
