Juan Mata was popular enough before he sunk Liverpool at the weekend and the Manchester United player who offers fans hugs has further endeared himself.

Mata recently paid a visit to club employee Jonathan Flood, who has just completed 15 years' service at Old Trafford.

Spaniard Mata handed him a signed United shirt with 'Mata 8' on the back and a bottle of wine to congratulate him on his 15-year stint.

"Thank you from all the players to you for working in the club. It's a pleasure for us," Mata told him.

Since arriving from Chelsea in January last year, Mata's popularity has soared amongst United fans thanks to his amiable nature.

The 26-year-old pens a weekly blog, delighted pupils at Button Lane Primary School in Wythenshawe and taught Spanish to children at the Swinton High School in Salford.

And, above all, his goals have secured 10 points for United this season.
