The FA piled on the misery onto Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers this week, charging Martin Skrtel for a stamp on David De Gea during Manchester United’s 2-1 win at Anfield.
Manchester United captain Wayne Rooney got away with a similar, if less sinister, tackle on Simon Mignolet earlier in the game.
Having linked up with the Belgian squad yesterday, Simon Mignolet today took to Twitter to share the damage Rooney’s tackle left on his ankle.
The Liverpool number one is now considered doubtful for Saturday’s Euro 2016 qualifier at home to Cyprus.
Chelsea stopper Thibaut Courtois will be in goal regardless of the 27 year olds fitness but Mignolet understandably would like to be involved with the national teams upcoming important games.
Mignolet has been in superb form in recent weeks and Brendan Rodgers will undoubtedly need him back for Liverpool’s next Premier League game away at Arsenal.
Should the FA have charged Wayne Rooney as well as Martin Skrtel for rash tackles on opposition keepers? Liverpool fans will probably think so.
