MARTIN SKRTEL last night denied his violent conduct charge for stamping on Manchester United keeper David De Gea.

The Liverpool defender is fighting a possible three-match ban from the FA.

Skrtel, 30, was judged to have stamped on De Gea in stoppage time of their Anfield clash on Sunday.

A panel of three ex-match officials studied the incident on video after referee Martin Atkinson missed it during United's 2-1 win.

An independent commission will now be assembled by the end of the week to discuss Skrtel's written response and the views of the three referees who analysed the incident.

The Slovak defender - currently on international duty - will argue that it was accidental and that he did not intend to stand on the Spanish keeper.

IN TROUBLE: But the FA are keen for a speedy resolution

But if found guilty then Skrtel will miss Liverpool's Premier League clashes with Arsenal and Newcastle as well as the FA Cup quarter-final replay with Blackburn.

Chelsea striker Diego Costa was suspended for three games for a stamp on Liverpool's Emre Can in January on the basis of video evidence

But Costa escaped further punishment for another apparent stamp on Skrtel in their Capital One Cup semi-final clash.

Steven Gerrard was also sent off during the United game for standing on Ander Herrera's shin and is definitely out for three games.

Skrtel chased the ball down as 10-man Liverpool desperately looked for a late equaliser against United.

But the defender was beaten to the ball by De Gea and then stood on him as he continued his run.

The FA are keen for a speedy resolution and the case could be heard as early as today.
