Liverpool could move for Theo Walcott as Raheem Sterling replacement

With speculation growing about the departure of Raheem Sterling, Brendan Rodgers is looking to another English winger to replace him and that man is reportedly Arsenal's Theo Walcott.

It is well known that Brendan Rodgers is a big fan of the winger as he tried to prise him away from the London club in 2013, just before the Arsenal man put pen to paper on a new deal at the Emirates. Walcott has been forced to take up a place on the bench in recent weeks and more often than not he has been unused as Arsene Wenger looks at other options in his side.

SWAP?

However, it was evident when Walcott came on against Monaco that they missed his pace and intention as he hit the post which led to Aaron Ramsey smashing home the second of the night. Rodgers believes that Walcott is the perfect replacement for Sterling if he leaves this summer but could still recruit Walcott even if Sterling does not leave.

With Raheem Sterling stalling on a new contract, Rodgers is making it fully aware that no one man is bigger than Liverpool FC. Rodgers will obviously be hoping that he can keep hold of the 19-year-old but with Sterling turning down a massive £90,000 a week (plus bonuses) it will be hard for Liverpool to offer any more for a player who is still in his developing years. However, Sterling has shown so much promise and current ability to demand such a high wage.

TALKS

Rodgers met with Sterling's representative, Aidy Ward, but no clear breakthrough was made creating more speculation that Sterling is Manchester bound as they line up a £50 million bid. However, with Sterling's contract not up until 2017 talks may resume in the summer.
