JOE HART says his own super display doesn't make up for the disappointment of crashing out of the Champions League to Barcelona for the second season running.

Manchester City were indebted to their No.1 for pulling off a series of super saves in the Nou Camp.

The England ace ensured Barcelona were only able to score once, giving City a chance of grabbing the two strikes they needed to save the tie following their defeat in the home leg.

However, they blew their best chance of getting back into the game when Sergio Aguero had a poor penalty saved by Marc-Andre Ter Stegen in the 77th minute.

And despite his heroics on the night, and when saving Lionel Messi's late penalty in Manchester, Hart says it's no consolation compared to be knocked out at the last 16 stage.

SAVE: Hart defied Barcelona's top stars countless times

"We've gone out to a magnificent side but that's the second time in two years and that's disappointing," he told Sky Sports.

"They've got fantastic players but we've had a big chance and unfortunately we didn't take it.

"I wanted that first leg penalty save to count and unfortunately it hasn't. A lot of them just hit me tonight - I just tried to stay big. It was busy. I just tried to smother them as much as I could."

City midfielder James Milner paid tribute to Hart's incredible performance between the posts.

"Joe's shown what a great keeper is and it's not the first time in Europe.

"He was amazing tonight and deserves everything that gets said about him. We didn't show our best - you have to be at your top level for 180 minutes.

"To get that goal (Aguero's missed penalty) would have helped but that's football. Harty saved one at the end of the first leg and that's how it goes.

"Ties are decided on moments like that and it didn't go for us."
