Koln 4 : 2 Eintracht Frankfurt - Sweet smell of success for Cologne

Cologne picked up only their second home win of the season to put some daylight between themselves and the drop zone thanks to a 4-2 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt.

Deyverson's first Bundesliga goal got Cologne on their way to victory, but Alexander Meier levelled for the visitors.

Thomas Schaaf's men wasted chances to take the lead and were then punished as Marcel Risse, Yuya Osako and Anthony Ujah netted in quick succession to earn the Billy Goats all three points, taking them up to 11th.

Meier added a second for Frankfurt in stoppage time from the penalty spot after Kevin Wimmer was sent off.

After a cagey start to the game - like so many this season at the Mungersdorferstadion - Cologne took the lead after 28 minutes when Deyverson stole in to lift his shot over Kevin Trapp.

Cologne could have added a second too with Ujah twice going close before Meier levelled just shy of the hour mark, netting his 17th goal of the season at the second attempt after Timo Horn saved his first.

It moved him level with Arjen Robben at the top of the scoring charts and gave Frankfurt confidence.

Timothy Chandler almost gave the Eagles the lead, but Horn did well to tip his shot over before Frankfurt's punishment duly followed.

Risse sent in a low shot from the edge of the area into the bottom left-hand corner of Trapp's goal from Matthias Lehmann's pass, and rather than being 2-1 down, Cologne instead went 2-1 in front.

Frankfurt then fell to pieces with Ujah robbing Carlos Zambrano of the ball and sending Osako through to net his first goal of the season.

Minutes later, Ujah took his third big opportunity of the game, putting all the power he possibly could behind his low drive past Trapp to seal all three points.

A penalty from Meier, which took him clear at the top of the scoring charts with 18 goals, was no more than a consolation in stoppage time after Wimmer saw red.
