Steven Gerrard and Daniel Sturridge hail Liverpool's 2-1 victory over Manchester City on Sunday
Steven Gerrard heaped praise on his Liverpool team-mates after the Reds were 2-1 winners against Manchester City at Anfield.
Liverpool broke the deadlock in the 11th minute after captain Jordan Henderson fired a long-range strike past Citizens goalkeeper Joe Hart at Anfield.
City, who lost 3-2 on Merseyside last season, managed to respond inside 14 minutes as David Silva and Sergio Aguero combined to tee up Edin Dzeko.
However, Liverpool playmaker Coutinho, scored the winner against the Citizens last term, netted a 75th-minute strike to score his second Premier League goal in the past seven days.
Gerrard, who hasn’t featured for the Reds since suffering a hamstring injury against Tottenham Hotspur last month, was quick to take to Instagram to heap praise on his Reds team-mates.
Gerrard wrote: 'Awesome the lads today buzzing. Won’t see 2 better goals to win a game @phil.coutinho @jhenderson'
Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge, who missed a late chance to add a third after he replaced Adam Lallana, was clearly thrilled with the three points against his former employers.
Sturridge posted on Instagram: 'Get in the boys!!! #redordead #ynwa #Lfc'
Finally, Liverpool teenager Jordon Ibe, who missed the clash due to injury, described Coutinho and Henderson’s goal as 'different class” after the Reds move up to fifth place in the table.
'Superb from the lads today. Goals were different class from @jhenderson and @phil.coutinho #LFC #YNWA” wrote Ibe.
