Celta Vigo vs Elche preview - Fontas urges against complacency

Celta Vigo defender Andreu Fontas has warned his team-mates not to get carried away by their impressive run of form as they prepare to host Elche on Monday.

The Galician outfit have collected 10 points from a possible 12 to climb to ninth in the Primera Division standings.

They go into the encounter in on the back of 2-0 wins over defending champions Atletico Madrid and Deportivo La Coruna.

"It would be fantastic to clinch a third straight victory against Elche," Fontas told Spanish newspaper Marca. "We are going through a very good spell, but we must keep our feet firmly on the ground.

"In football, when you relax a little bit any opponents can beat you.

"Things are looking up for us right now and we have to make the most of it by clinching as many points as we can in order to defend our La Liga status as soon as possible.

"But, if we are not 100 per cent and we don't compete as we did in our previous two games, we will struggle against Elche."

Eduardo Berizzo's side have shown few signs of weakness of late, scoring six goals and conceding just one in their last four league games.

Relegation-threatened Elche travel north after a 2-0 home to Real Madrid last time out.

The loss ended a two-match winning streak for the Valencian outfit and kept Fran Escriba's side in 17th place.

Elche will have an added motivation to beat Celta, knowing that a victory would see them climb four points clear of the drop zone.

"We need maximum focus because we face a very strong side," Elche captain Edu Albacar said. "I believe we can defend our Primera Division status, but we have a lot of work to do.

"We need to return to winning ways as soon as possible."

Elche will be without defender Enzo Roco, who serves a one-match ban.
