Rangers caretaker boss Kenny McDowall is missing nine Light Blues players ahead of Friday's crucial Scottish Championship clash with Hibernian.

Skipper Lee McCulloch and keeper Steve Simonsen both received bans from Hampden chiefs on Thursday which rule them out, while four of the five players recently signed from Newcastle on loan - Gael Bigirimana, Remie Streete, Shane Ferguson and Kevin Mbabu - are injured.

First-choice goalkeeper Cammy Bell (shoulder) remains sidelined so Lee Robinson will start in goal but David Templeton (thigh) is also out, as is Bilel Mohsni after the Tunisian defender returned from the African Nations Cup with a knock.

Richard Foster, meanwhile, has a groin problem and is rated as doubtful for the Ibrox fixture.

Hibs are approaching a full squad as they travel to face the troubled Gers.

Keith Watson and Martin Boyle are back in the squad after being ineligible for the William Hill Scottish Cup and Dominque Malonga is available after his return from African Nations Cup duty was delayed by a cup suspension.

Head coach Alan Stubbs said: "We are not worried about what is happening with Rangers on and off the pitch. We are going there to focus on what we know we can do to win a game of football."
