MICHAEL LAUDRUP is set to be named as the new QPR boss.
BACK IN ACTION: Michael Laudrup's last job in the Premier League was at Swansea City
Chairman Tony Fernandes revealed on Twitter last night he was close to ending his search for a replacement for Harry Redknapp.
And Starsport can reveal the former Swansea manager made a big impression on Fernandes when he was interviewed for the Loftus Road vacancy.
"Think I have got my dream manager," Fernandes wrote. "Not what anyone thinks. Take a while. Still a bit to go but I'm very happy.
"It'll be a big name in for last big payout. What QPR needs is a young, exciting manager with something to prove."
His last comment points to Laudrup, 50, who was axed by Swansea a year ago after a disappointing run of games.
In June he took charge at Qatar Stars League champions Lekhwiya, but only signed a one-year deal.
Former Tottenham boss Tim Sherwood was widely expected to get the job after close friends Chris Ramsey and Les Ferdinand were handed the reins on a temporary basis after Redknapp quit.
But Starsport revealed on Friday that Sherwood wanted a three-year deal worth £6m in total, whereas Fernandes was only ready to pay £1m a year plus bonuses.
Laudrup was a major success in his first season at Swansea, winning the League Cup in 2013 and leading them to a ninth placed finish.
