Oldham Athletic AFC 2 : 1 Swindon - Swindon punished for early lapse

Swindon suffered a blow to their automatic promotion hopes as they went down 2-1 at play-off chasing Oldham.

The Robins failed to recover from a nightmare start which saw them two goals down inside the first 11 minutes.

Oldham went ahead after 10 minutes when Conor Wilkinson got away down the right and his cross picked out Mike Jones for a sweetly-struck finish from 12 yards.

Within seconds of the restart Swindon gifted the Latics their second, with a stray pass allowing Wilkinson to steal possession and run clean through before calmly slotting inside the post.

Oldham thought they were 3-0 up before the half-hour mark, only for Jonathan Forte's header to be ruled out for offside.

But Swindon were a constant threat and home goalkeeper Jake Kean did well to deny Ben Gladwin and Michael Smith.

After Oldham's Rhys Murphy had gone close, Swindon grabbed a lifeline in the 63rd minute when Massimo Luongo's dipping 20-yard shot eluded Kean's dive.

The visitors piled on the pressure, but Andy Williams fluffed a headed chance and Harry Toffolo's late shot was parried by Kean.
