Sheffield United vs Preston North End preview - New recruits miss out for Blades

Sheffield United will be without new signings Jason Holt, John Brayford, Kieron Freeman and Paul Coutts for their FA Cup replay against Preston.

All four are ineligible for the fourth-round tie and boss Nigel Clough is expected to use his full squad again after making 10 changes for Saturday's win against Swindon from the side beaten by Tottenham in the Capital One Cup last week.

Goalkeeper Mark Howard rested a back problem at the weekend and defender Bob Harris was absent due to a family bereavement, but both are expected to be in contention.

Ryan Flynn has missed the last three games due to an Achilles problem and is also expected to return to the squad.

Preston, who are winless in their last seven games, will be without cup-tied duo Daniel Johnson and Sam Johnstone.

Midfielder Johnson made his debut in the Lilywhites' 2-1 defeat to Crawley on Saturday but his appearance in Oldham's defeat against Doncaster prevents him from facing the Blades. Neil Kilkenny could return in his spot.

Johnstone also played in that second-round tie, one of three appearances in the competition made while on loan with Doncaster this season, so Thorsten Stuckmann will return in goal.

Loanees Paul Gallagher and Jermaine Beckford are able to play, with the latter pushing for a return after missing the last three games through illness.
