Scott Sinclair has slammed talk he is a money-grabbing Premier League mercenary.

The Man City outcast has joined Aston Villa on loan for the rest of the campaign having seen a dream £8million move to the Etihad turn into an 18-month nightmare.

After barely getting a game with City in that time - his only appearance this season was three minutes as a sub - Sinclair has been accused of being more interested in collecting his £50,000-a-week wages than fulfilling his huge potential.

Yet the ex-Chelsea and Swansea star insists nothing could be farther from the truth - and that he cannot wait to prove the snipers wrong with struggling Villa.

Ahead of today's trip to Arsenal, Sinclair, still only 25, declared: "I want to show everyone - and most of all myself - that it's not just about the money and the contract I had a City."

"I want to be back out there, playing games and enjoying being in love with football again. I've been through a hell of a lot. But I'm still here and hungry."

"A lot of people out there will write me off and say he doesn't care. They have a certain image of me. But those who know me, know that's not true."

"Yes, I still go out shopping and for the meals with my girlfriend. But I couldn't lock myself away just because I wasn't getting games."

SINC OR SWIM: Scott Sinclair has another chance at Villa

"No player ever goes to a club thinking they're are not going to play. I made the move to City because I wanted to play Champions League and to win trophies.“

"But sometimes it doesn't work out like that. That's part and parcel of football."

As was training alone on Saturdays when the majority of his City pals were involved in high-profile Premier League clashes.

Sinclair, whose partner is Corrie actress Helen Flanagan, admits that was particularly tough on him mentally - but also helped to keep him motivated during the darkest days.

He went on: "I trained on my own with one City coach, going through drills and just trying to keep fit. It didn't faze me even though it was one another thing after another."

"It's not fun but you get on with it. Then you go home and watch Match of the Day. That was hard too."

"But going through that actually defines you as a person - and shows how much you want to play football still."

"I knew I had to dig in and be ready to take a transfer when the chance came."

"This is my chance now. That's why I'm at Villa. I just want to get out on the pitch again."
