VfB Stuttgart vs Monchengladbach preview - Stevens demands win over Gladbach

Stuttgart have been one of the most impressive sides in terms of their results during the winter break, but their experienced coach Huub Stevens knows that will all count for nothing if they do not deliver when it matters against Borussia Monchengladbach this Saturday.

Three wins and a draw in their Portuguese training camp all augurs well for the second half of the season and Stevens hopes his impressions are not mistaken.

"The lads have pulled along well, they have become more united and are in good shape," said the Dutchman at a press conference.

"The preparations can go as well as you like them to go, though, but you find out most in your first game."

Stevens has been so impressed with what he has seen over the winter that he admits it has caused him something of a headache.

"It's hard to pick 11 players because they've all worked so well," he said.

Antonio Rudiger, Carlos Gruezo, Mohamed Abdellaoue and Daniel Didavi are all unavailable for that final list, but Vedad Ibisevic should be available.

Former Stuttgart full-back Ibrahima Traore will not be able to face his former side since he is still at the African Nations Cup while Andre Hahn also misses out for Gladbach due to an ankle injury.

Alvaro Dominguez and Thorgan Hazard are also doubtful due to a flu virus, which is not the news coach Lucien Favre wanted with his side then facing Schalke in midweek.

"The fixture list is how it is, we can't change it," said the Swiss coach. "We just have to be ready quickly."
