Nani: Man Utd want me back

Forgotten Manchester United winger Nani says the club want him to stay at Old Trafford next season and he moved away to regain some confidence and find a club that believed in him.

Nani was part of Louis van Gaal's plans at the start of the season and was brought on at half-time during the opening game of the campaign against Swansea.

However, the winger, now 28, moved back to his former club Sporting Lisbon at the end of the summer as part of the deal that brought defender Marcos Rojo to United.

Nani has a contract to 2018 and has said it was his choice to make the move, suggesting he may yet have a future at Old Trafford if he wants one.

"The club know my value and I know they want me to stay," he said.

"It was me who made the choice to leave the club, and it was a good decision by me because I knew if I stayed one more season at Old Trafford it would be very hard for me.

"I just need someone to believe in me, trust me and my qualities and give me an opportunity to show them on the pitch.

"It's an experience I wanted a lot and needed as well, because the last two seasons at Manchester United I had so many injuries and I was very upset with a lot of things that happened to me.

"I was missing my family and friends and I wanted something new. The only opportunity I had to be happy, and Manchester United to be happy as well, was this one."

Nani has endured a frustrating eight years at Old Trafford. His first season carried much promise but injuries and inconsistency kept him out the side.

However, he flourished for a period of around 18 months when Cristiano Ronaldo left the club and United supporters know just how good he can be when he is on top form.

The winger definitely is high on confidence right now and has been in superb form this season, starring not just in Portugal but in the Champions League too.
