Inter Milan 0 : 1 Torino - Moretti nets late winner at Inter

Emiliano Moretti's last-gasp winner earned Torino a 1-0 Serie A victory at Inter Milan on Sunday afternoon.

Moretti headed home his first goal of the season deep into stoppage time to drop Inter further off the pace in the hunt for a third-place finish.

Inter, who have won just one of their last five league games, have dropped to ninth place, eight points adrift of Lazio, who are third and hold the last Champions League qualifying spot.

The win, Toro's sixth of the campaign, which followed their 3-2 triumph at Cesena, has lifted the Granata to 12th in the standings and extended their unbeaten run to seven league games.

Inter went into the encounter at the Giuseppe Meazza stadium inspired by Wednesday's 2-0 triumph over Sampdoria in the Coppa Italia.

Nerazzurro coach Roberto Mancini left recent signing Xerdan Shaqiri on the bench with Zdravko Kuzmanovic partnering Fredy Guarin in the heart of Inter's midfield.

The hosts dominated possession and first tested Daniele Padelli in the 13th minute.

Rodrigo Palacio fed Lukas Podolski in the box and his left-footed shot from 10 yards forced the visiting goalkeeper to clear at full stretch.

Two minutes later, Toro wasted a good opportunity when Josef Martinez controlled Marco Benassi's cross in the heart of Inter's area but struck the ball way off target.

Inter pressed forward and in the 21st minute, Nemanja Vidic's powerful header from Podolski's cross flew wide.

The Nerazzurri went closest to taking the lead in the 40th minute when Mauro Icardi got his head behind Danilo D'Ambrosio's dangerous cross and his effort went just wide.

The hosts were forced to make their first substitution before the interval with Andrea Ranocchia replacing an injured Marco Andreolli.

Inter showed more intent after the break and in the 53rd minute, Padelli was forced to fully stretch to keep out Podolski's goal-bound attempt from outside the area.

Toro wasted two good chances shortly after.

Alexander Farnerud struck the ball over the bar with only goalkeeper Samir Handanovic left to beat and seconds later, Fabio Quagliarella's bullet strike from 15 yards was blocked by Ranocchia.

In the 76th minute, Palacio whipped in a dangerous cross but substitute Shaqiri failed to connect at the far post as a good opportunity went begging.

With seconds remaining, the visitors made Inter pay for failing to defend a corner.

Substitute Maxi Lopez headed a corner-kick towards Inter's six-yard box where an unmarked Moretti nodded past a helpless Handanovic.
