Gray to play through the pain

Posted Saturday, December 27, 2014 by PA

Hibernian full-back David Gray will be asked to play through the pain barrier in the Scottish Championship clash with Rangers.

Gray has a stomach problem that is expected to need surgery but is set to play against Rangers and Hearts beforehand.

Dylan McGeouch is set to return to training following ankle surgery but will miss the game while Jordon Forster remains out following appendix surgery along with long-term absentee Farid El Alagui.

Head coach Alan Stubbs said: "They don't come any bigger than Rangers at home then Hearts away.

"We need to take care of Rangers first and get a real positive result, as in three points, which will set us up really nicely to go to Tynecastle."

Kenny McDowall will take sole charge of Rangers for the first time.

But the caretaker boss - who replaces Ally McCoist for the rest of the season - has no fresh injury worries.

Lewis Macleod has an outside chance of returning from his hamstring tear while defender Marius Zaliukas (knee) and goalkeeper Cammy Bell (shoulder) are stepping up their recovery work.
