CLARKE CARLISLE is currently fighting for life after being hit by a lorry on the A64.

CRITICAL CONDITION: Clarke Carlisle is currently fighting for his life after being hit by a lorry earlier today

The accident took place near Bishopthorpe in North Yorkshire at 7:30am this morning.

The former Burnley and QPR defender was airlifted to Leeds General Infirmary with life threatening injuries as soon as the road was closed by local police.

The cause of the accident is still unknown, however a North Yorkshire Police spokesperson revealed that they were 'pursuing all avenues'.

Carlisle, 35, made 430 appearances in his professional career which spanned 16 years.
