Augsburg 2 : 1 Monchengladbach - Augsburg hit back to down Gladbach

Augsburg came from behind to return to winning ways and close the gap on Borussia Monchengladbach in the Bundesliga with a 2-1 win at the SGL arena.

Max Kruse put the visitors in front early on from the spot, but Markus Feulner levelled after 20 minutes.

Raul Bobadilla ensured Augsburg took all three points and moved level on 27 points with their opponents after their best ever first half to a league season.

Gladbach would have put six points between them and their hosts with a win and they made an ideal start when Kruse put them in front from the penalty spot.

Jan-Ingwer Callsen-Bracker gave away the penalty after handling the ball in the area as Gladbach went straight on the attack.

Augsburg responded well and levelled when Alexander Esswein's cross was turned back inadvertently to Feulner by Halil Altintop, and the former Bayern Munich midfielder accepted the gift for his first goal of the season.

Roel Brouwers nearly put Gladbach back in front in the 32nd minute, but he shot straight at Alexander Manninger from six yards out after the hosts failed to clear a free-kick.

Augsburg then took the lead early in the second half when Esswein squared for Bobadilla to power his shot into the top left-hand corner from 10 yards out.

Altintop brought a fine save out of Yann Sommer, who then had to make an instinctive block to prevent former Augsburg forward Andre Hahn from doing his ex-club a favour.

Bobadilla drilled another dangerous effort into the side-netting as Augsburg sought the comfort of a two-goal lead, but they ultimately did not need it as they held on to the points to end a run of two defeats.
