Thierry Henry RETIRES from football (but joins Sky Sports instead of Arsenal return)

THIERRY HENRY has called time on his football career, but has decided to accept a punditry role instead of heading back to Arsenal.

The 37-year-old announced earlier this month he was bringing the curtain down on a four-and-a-half year spell with MLS outfit New York Red Bulls.
Speculation had reached near fever point that he would go back to the Gunners to take up a coaching role.
Henry had dropped a hint of his wish to help Arsenal win the Champions League when he recently told L'Equipe: "One thing is certain: I will stay in football, as a coach, a consultant or executive. We will see.
"The second certainty is that I would love to see Arsenal win the Champions League.
"Whether that is from near or far does not depend on me, but it is sure I'd like to help. This is my club and, as a player, I was not able to give them the Champions League."
But he has decided to pursue a career in media, and will now work as a football expert for Sky Sports.
The former France international and World Cup winner released a statement via Facebook which read: "After 20 years in the game I have decided to retire from professional football.
"It has been an incredible journey and I would like to thank all the fans, team mates and individuals involved with AS Monaco, Juventus, Arsenal FC, FC Barcelona, the New York Red Bulls and of course the French National Team that have made my time in the game so special.
"It is now time for a different career path and I am pleased to say that I will be returning to London and joining Sky Sports. I will hopefully share some of the insights, observations and experiences I have learnt over the years with you guys.
"I have had some amazing memories (mostly good!) and a wonderful experience.

Henry attained legendary status at Arsenal, where he racked up 175 goals, putting him joint fourth on the all-time list of Premier League scorers.
The charismatic striker lifted two Premier League titles and three FA Cups during his trophy-laden spell in north London.
