Everton and West Ham charged by FA
Tempers flare at Goodison Park after James McCarthy's tackle on Morgan Amalfitano

Everton and West Ham have been charged by the Football Association following their Premier League game at Goodison Park last Saturday.

The charges relate to an incident in the latter stages of the first half when a tackle by home midfielder James McCarthy on West Ham's Morgan Amalfitano provoked an angry reaction from the visiting players and a melee broke out.

An FA statement read: "It is alleged that in or around the 40th minute of the fixture, both clubs failed to ensure their players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion."

"The clubs have until 6pm on 1 December 2014 to respond to the charge."

Both McCarthy and West Ham defender Winston Reid were booked by referee Mark Clattenburg.

Everton won the game 2-1 thanks to a 73rd-minute winner from Leon Osman after Mauro Zarate had cancelled out Romelu Lukaku's opener for the hosts.
