Marco Reus suffered suspected torn ankle ligaments during Borussia Dortmund's 2-2 draw at Paderborn in the Bundesliga on Saturday.

The Germany forward was forced off in the 64th minute of the match, leaving the pitch on a stretcher and being taken to hospital.

Dortmund sporting director Michael Zorc said on the club's official website Reus could have suffered "a lateral ankle ligament rupture" according to the team doctor's initial diagnosis.

The injury was to the right ankle and boss Jurgen Klopp said: "His ankle has swollen up badly."

Should the early diagnosis prove accurate, it would be another major injury setback for Dortmund's key man. Reus was ruled out of the World Cup by a partial ligament tear in his left ankle.

He was injured in a challenge from Marvin Bakalorz, a former Dortmund player, and Klopp was unhappy with the Paderborn man.

"There are situations where he makes sliding tackles without any control whatsoever. I used to tell him that he shouldn't do that. Marvin is a great lad, but that was just too much," he said.

Bakalorz said: "Klopp screamed at me and rightly so."
