Chesterfield 2 : 1 Barnsley - Doyle double ends Spireites' wait

Eoin Doyle struck in each half to give Chesterfield their first league win in eight games as in-form Barnsley were beaten 2-1 at the Proact Stadium.

Doyle took his tally in all competitions to 19 and although substitute Keith Treacy replied with five minutes to go, Chesterfield deservedly held on.

Both teams enjoyed good periods of possession, but it was 26 minutes before the first clear chance fell to Chesterfield top scorer Doyle who headed straight at Ross Turnbull from eight yards.

Barnsley defender Lewin Nyatanga had a header saved by home keeper Tommy Lee in the 33rd minute, but Doyle made no mistake in the 42nd minute when he got in on the right and lifted the ball over Turnbull for his 18th goal in all competitions.

Lee denied Kane Hemmings before Doyle drove a low shot past Turnbull from 15 yards in the 58th minute and there was more frustration for Barnsley when Sam Winnall's header was cleared off the goalline in the 66th minute.

Barnsley finally beat Lee in the 85th minute when Winnall set up Treacy at the back post, but it was not enough for Danny Wilson's side.
