Monchengladbach 1 : 3 Eintracht Frankfurt - Frankfurt fight back for victory

Borussia Monchengladbach were beaten for the second game in a row as Eintracht Frankfurt came from behind to win 3-1 at the Borussia Park Stadion.

It all looked simple for the Foals when Havard Nordtveit gave them the lead in the sixth minute, but Marc Stendera, Alexander Meier and Takashi Inui turned the game on its head to earn Frankfurt three precious points.

Gladbach ended the game with just 10 men with Granit Xhaka picking up a second booking late on, completing a miserable afternoon for Lucien Favre's men.

Fresh from losing their 17-game unbeaten record before the winter break, Gladbach showed how keen they were to start another run of similar results with Frankfurt goalkeeper Felix Wiedwald coming under immediate pressure.

He denied Patrick Herrmann and Raffael before being beaten by Nordtveit, although not without the help of a deflection off Bastian Oczipka which made the Frankfurt custodian's task impossible.

Frankfurt responded immediately with Haris Seferovic testing Yann Sommer, but Gladbach continued to do most of the running with the lively Herrmann teeing up Max Kruse, whose header back across goal found no takers.

Chances fell at both ends with Frankfurt not letting the early setback get them down with Inui, Meier and Anderson all giving Sommer some work to do, and Gladbach could have taken a two-goal lead into the interval, but Andre Hahn only found the side-netting.

It proved to be too little for Gladbach as Frankfurt grew in confidence as the match wore on and two goals in as many minutes turned the game around.

Seferovic set up Stendera to guide his shot into the far corner of Sommer's goal, despite the Swiss goalkeeper's best efforts to keep it out.

Seferovic then tested his compatriot, who could only parry the ball out for Meier to put Frankfurt in front.

Sommer's miserable afternoon got worse in the 73rd minute when his poor clearance was picked up by Sonny Kittel, who gave Meier the ball which he sent through for Inui to make it 3-1.

Sommer salvaged some pride with a fine save from Kittel, but his compatriot Xhaka let his frustration get the better of himself when he earned a yellow card for protesting when his headed goal was disallowed for offside, and he followed that a minute later with a second yellow for a foul on Kittel.
