Felix Magath believes his former club Wolfsburg have a good chance of winning the Bundesliga this season, while he has not ruled out a return to the game either. Magath: Wolfsburg have title chance

Magath led Wolfsburg to their one and only Bundesliga title in 2009, beating his former club Bayern into second place.

The Wolves are now the Bavarians' nearest rivals with just four points separating the two sides in the standings, and Magath has tipped them to keep the pressure on Pep Guardiola's men right until the end of the season.

"I have the feeling that this season, one which comes after a World Cup in which Bayern may not be as strong as in previous years, could be a chance for Wolfsburg like in 2009 to bring the title back to the Autostadt," Magath told Sport1 television.

"When I came back here, people were saying that the title was a one-off and that it would never be possible again, but I always said that Wolfsburg are a club with a future.

"They are a bit like Atletico Madrid, who can even hold their own against Real Madrid and Barcelona.

"And just like with Atletico, Wolfsburg can win the Bundesliga in this post-World Cup season. It would be nice if at least one club could pursue Bayern and it's no surprise to me that Wolfsburg are the ones doing it.

"Given the spending power the club have, they really have got to be playing a leading role. Honestly, they should be regulars in the Champions League."

To aid them, Magath says Arsenal's Lukas Podolski would be a great signing this winter.

"He's a player with such potential and there are not many around with such a strong left foot, so I'm convinced that he could help Wolfsburg," Magath said.

"I can imagine that in a city where everything would revolve around him, that being the lead figure would give him a further boost.

"I'm sure there's interest from Bundesliga clubs in Lukas, it's more a matter of whether he and his agent would like a return to the Bundesliga.

"I can imagine he has offers from other countries too."
